SHINING LIGHTS AND A GLORIOUS EVENT

PRISM 2017, department festival of DDU KAUSHAL Kendra, Loyola College, had a grand opening with shining students showcasing their talent.

Gala celebration of talent, Prism 2017, department festival of DDU KAUSHAL Kendra had grand opening with the famous film director R.S. Prasanna of “Kalyana Samayal Sadam”, inaugurating the function. Andrew Vasanth, Director of the Film “Leelai” and Tresa Xavier, Faculty of KAUSHAL Kendra, gave the welcome address. The chief guest of the event, RS Prasanna, was honoured by M.Malini, Director of KAUSHAL Kendra and JS Chitra, Faculty of KAUSHAL Kendra. 

The function began with a traditional lighting of the lamp by Aarthi, Cultural Secretary, KAUSHAL Kendra, RS Prasanna, M.Malini, Andrew Vasanth and Sony. S. Somar, Vice President of KAUSHAL Kendra. The event was followed by prayer song of Anugraha and Angel, students of the department. The session was carried forward with an inspiring speech by Director R.S Prasanna.

The audience were enthralled by a scintillating silambam (a martial art form using sticks) and Paraiyattam (a percussion instrument) performance by students of KAUSHAL Kendra.


FACTS AND FESTIVITIES

After a spellbinding inauguration of the department festival, Prism 2017, at DDU KAUSHAL Kendra, Loyola College, the very first event – ‘Fact Check’-started with a bang. Conducted by Quiz Master Nivetha S and supported by Hitesh, both students of DDU KAUSHAL Kendra, participants were given headlines or a statement about current affairs. They were then required to answer if it was a correct or incorrect statement. If it was incorrect, they had to provide the correct answer. Dr. Arockiya Anto Anitha S, Assitant Professor, Department of English, Loyola College was the Chief Guest of the event.

The event had 13 participants from various colleges like D.G Vaishnav College, Ethiraj College for Women and Loyola College. It was conducted in three stages. Initially they were given a written quiz in which the participants had to answer a questionnaire. Only ten of contestants got selected for the second round.

The second stage of selection involved a PPT quiz, after which five participants for the grand finale were shortlisted. Amrutha from Ethiraj College for Women won the the event, KR Vijay from Loyola College, Media Arts Department came second and the third position went to Shantanu of D G Vaishnav College, Chennai.
